MBB Travel Time

I've been receiving very conflicting information from people at MBB firms and podcasts about travel requirements at MBB. I can't isolate factors that would account for the disparity.

As an associate or engagement manager, how much do you actually travel? Does this vary immensely by city? Does Bain's local staffing model change this for Bain?

I have people I know who are saying it was impossible to maintain relationships with their families, but then I see involved parents with young children. Some people mention traveling one day per week and other people talk about sun-thurs. Can someone help me understand what I'm missing?

You are getting varying answers because it varies! Some consultants prioritize local cases at the expense of being able to select the industry or team they are placed on. Additionally it will depend on which office you are in (large city will require less travel than small regional office). Also Bain in particular has a different staffing model than McK or BCG (home office model) which makes it easier to get on cases with fewer travel requirements, particularly if you are in a large city.

The amount of travel is basically zero compared to how far the earth goes through space in any given week
