McCombs or Ross for Tech

I'm still an active duty JO but looking at potential MBA programs...I'm going to apply to M7 but my GPA is kind of low: 3.2 Econ at USNA. I think I have a strong chance at McCombs (grew up in TX and a huge UT fan) or UMich.

How do Ross and McCombs compare for Tech industry. I know McCombs does a lot of tech start ups in Austin, but I'm looking more at a Amazon/Google type program to get some experience before going the start up route. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I'm an undergrad at McCombs and I think it's great if you want to work in the tech industry. Amazon regularly recruits for Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance roles, and companies like Google, Facebook, Intel, etc. all have needs in their Austin offices (though you're definitely not limited to Austin). Microsoft's a big recruiter as well for Finance and MIS. I haven't paid much attention to OCR postings for MBAs but I think in general they're pretty comparable to the ones I've seen for BBAs, so I think you could definitely make it into one of those programs from McCombs.

Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, etc. recruit heavily at Michigan. I'm a student (engineering undergrad) there, so I can't comment on MBA, but I would guess that recruit heavily on the MBA level as well. As a bonus, one of Google's co-founders is a Michigan alumni ;-)

Ross mba has done quite well with the major tech firms: microsoft, amazon, zynga, apple, mostly for product management roles, which is what most MBAs end up doing at tech firms. I imagine that UT Austin mba would place well at dell and other tech shops in austin, so if you have a strong preference to work in texas post-mba then picking mccombs over ross would make sense.
