wrong....it is the same, if not higher, in S&T as long as we're talking about one of the more profitable desks

the real question is how hard it is to make MD in S&T (very hard)

Are you sure? Keep in mind its for sales, not trading.

Heads of sales desks on desks like commodities, structured credit, etc. should be making quite a bit more than the average MD in IBD. On average, sales and structuring make around the same as those in trading do. The difference is that since traders can take a risk position they have the huge upside potential (and also downside potential) that you won't have in sales. So making 50-100MM a year is possible for a trader (albeit very, very rare), but damn near impossible for a sales person
