Meeting PE recruiters before starting IBD FT
Hi,
This summer I will start as an analyst in IBD London and I was wondering what you guys think about meeting with PE recruiters (e.g. Dartmouth or Kea) before starting. I know that when you start you will have little time available for meeting with all the recruiters. What about meeting with these recruiters before I start at the desk so that I have already met them and future conversations can be done over the phone. I would also say it shows my eagerness. Curious what you guys think.
Thanks!
During my summer internship back then I already met a guy from KEA and stayed in touch with them. We met at a coffee place near the office and had a quick chat about my experience and investment prefs.
"Unfortunately" you need them and should always be responsive to their calls. If you have the time it is always better to meet in person.
Meeting them will not hurt you, it will actually help you because it shows you have a clear vision of your goals
Thanks. Which firms would you recommend me to reach out to? I know KEA and Dartmouth, but are there other firms that you think will be open to a coffee with essentially a student reaching out for a placement in 3 years time?
Not sure how the timeline differs in the UK, but in the U.S. a lot of PE recruiting for roles beginning in the summer of 2020 will happen for first-year analysts this upcoming winter (late 2018/early 2019), so while the job might start in 2-2.5 years, interviews and offers happen in half a year.
