Megafund internship or MM IB?
Hi WSO,
I am currently in a position where I am making a choice between a FT IB analyst position at one of the larger non-BB banks, and a long-term off-cycle internship with the credit arm of a MF. (Both in London)
Am I wrong to give up a FT offer for a shot at a MF?
I am set on doing credit, and feel that being at a fund will be a great opportunity, and even if no offer is given I believe I would still have some solid openings for full-time after the internship.
I am in my last semester of a MSc in Europe, with an IB SA and a MM PE internship under my belt.
In my head, the MF is the way I want to go, but would be great to get some of your input.

If you want to do credit, do so. But personally I’d take a FT offer over an internship. You never know how the world will look next year.
Appreciate the input! And yes, that is a very valid point and something I have been considering.
However, I have heard that things are not great in the bank currently and there is obviously no appetite whatsoever for risk, which leads me to believe that an MF might be a better place short-term for exposure and experience.
Does the MF credit hire analysts? If yes, go for it, if not take the FT job. You’d just set yourself up to recruit again for FT in 6 months. You could also check with your bank if you could push back your start date 6 months (to have a backup) as you want to take care of family or some bs given the current environment.

congrats! go for credit imo since you want to do credit?! The MF brand will carry you wherever with the target MSc + relevant experience especially if it’s a noBBIB
things look different if you have a family to take care off but half a year should be sufficient to find FT with your profile.
Thank you for the input! Yes, that is what I am leaning towards as well, and seeing as my ideal route would be to a fund straight out of school I think this is the way to go, but its not an easy decision
