Messed up my past internship - How to pass background check
I messed up big time and in need of some real advice here, please hear me out.
Earlier this year, I did a part-time internship at a very small physical trading shop (only 2 employees). The problem was, the guy was blatantly lying about what the company does and the job description - which makes the role unideal for me. I don't mind a few white lies here and there, but this was too big of a lie and was a dealbreaker for me.
That being said, I fucked around for 2 months - and started some side projects on my own (outside of work hours) and actually got some real job done for the company. But then an opportunity came up at an MM and I quickly bailed out of the internship. Now here is where I messed up, I was so salty at my boss that I didn't tell him that I was leaving. I just stopped coming to work. He also did not care and did not reach out to me.
I'm now recruiting for 2021 SA. I really want to put this on my resume but I am worried that my old boss would refuse to verify the internship with HR during background checks. Is there a way to get around this?
I would just not put it on my resume... since an internship at a 2 people company, where you fucked around for two months, won't impress anyone anyway
I'd be more worried about being drilled on it during interviews, 2 months internship is odd to say the least.
As far as background check goes, you'd probably be fine as long as you are not lying on your application.
you could always reach out to said boss apologize and ask if you can put his info down
Interning at a 2 people shop is not worth putting on a resume.

Yeah but interviewers wouldn't know if that is really a 2 people shop. Besides, if extracurriculars add value on resume, I think a relevant internship does too (even at a 2 people shop), don't you think?
It is also one of the only 2 market related internships that I have (another one this coming summer), and I come from a non-finance background, so this helps me show interest in the markets.

One thought, maybe throw it in a section for extra-curriculars and give it one line. Doubtful they would try to verify it then, as it is just a one-liner, but then you could still speak to it in an interview. Don’t call it an internship, just say you were brought on to help with a project. Otherwise keep it off

How did payroll work? Where you paid off the books?
Direct transfer from my ex-boss' personal bank account, so his name and bank account is written on my bank statement, so I guess it can serve as an evidence.
That being said though, my ex-boss will probably put in some nasty words to background screening companies when contacted independently, especially considering how I handled the conflict back then (i.e. ended internship prematurely, no notice). I am worried that this could affect the recruitment decision for 2021 SA (can this actually happen?)
As far as I know, background check companies only ask and confirm the dates that you worked there. I don't think they will give any other information to your new employer unless they learned of some legal issue. I would love for other people to chime in just to confirm.
