Miami University (OH) finance major or UMICH, Notre Dame type Econ?
Hey all,
I'm currently a finance major at Miami University (OH) and while I'm enjoying the classes and doing well, I've found it's ridiculously hard to network for top NY internship positions (AM/IB/ER in particular). I personally think Farmer has mostly good finance/accounting/econ teachers, and some really solid ones, but I've found it extremely difficult to get a callback, even with good past experience, clubs, and networking my ass off. I know Miami isn't a target, but the frustration is causing me to doubt the school.
I wanted to therefore ask what people would think of a finance major out of Miami vs an Econ major outside the business school at a target/close target - UMICH, Notre Dame, (Richmond-finance) types assuming I could transfer in but not into the business school. I personally would like to major in finance as it's what i'm best at and most interested in, but if the prospect of transferring helped that much I'd have to highly consider it.
-also for reference I'm thinking about studying for CFA Level 1 before I graduate, if that makes any difference.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Are you in the IB club? Their members place well across NY and Chicago.
I am not. I'm in other finance clubs. Never joined because I didn't realize I was highly interested in IB until recently and am now playing catchup.
