Mich LSA Or Vanderbilt?
At UMich I plan to major in history/poli sci and minor in business at Ross. At Vandy I'm probably gonna major in history/poli sci + HOD. I'm interested in both consulting and IB. I know that Vandy is nice for consulting but for IB I don't know if it's as strong for IB. As for UMich, I don't exactly know how well ppl from LSA do, and I'm not doing a STEM major.
LSA, although you pretty much need to major in econ or you'll face a lot of questions about why you want to do finance. LSA doesn't have the same luxury as Ivies in that you can major in whatever you want.
Weird situation here because both of these schools are very highly ranked and excellent schools, but Vandy has little IB recruiting (combination of low student interest, few ways to get finance experience on campus, and being in a large fun city with no banking presence). Michigan LSA is not the top target Ross is but you'll still have tons of alumni and interview opportunities.
Thank you for your input! I was worried about UMich being too large in comparison to Vandy and thus too hard to get individual resources. As for major, I am interested in finance but I'm less sure about econ. Some have told me that because there's Ross plus a lot people who wants to do IB/consulting in econ, majoring in something other than econ combing with a fair amount of business classes+some activities could potentially make you stand out. Can I ask your opinion about this, or is econ the better option after all?
Michigan alum here
If you know you want IB before starting, you can easily do Econ, join top Ross clubs and you’ll be competitive for every single banks
Would go with Vandy over Mich non-Ross almost any day of the week for finance and especially for consulting. Placement is not even close.
Vandy alum here, you’ll have a good time and a successful career at either school you choose. Don’t worry which one is more of a target for certain firms/industries because it’s likely you don’t even know exactly what you want to do yet. If I were you, I would pick Vandy because it’s probably a lot cheaper, higher ranked (helps with grad school or MBA admissions), less kids so you can stand out, and Nashville is dope with lots of stuff to do on the weekend (southern bbq & bars)!
Bruh, both schools are strong. Focus on your 4-year experience and the location/weather as they're very different.
vanderbilt easy. u don’t have ross at michigan
