Middle of a gap year between HS and non-target university. Is there anything I can do right now that will benefit me in the future?

Currently I am in the middle of taking a gap year between high school and university (A non target, unfortunately). I have always been one to obsess over how my actions will impact my future, usually in a career-oriented sense. I would just like to gather some recommendations as to what I can do with this time that will be constructive, and conducive to increasing my chances at possibly landing an internship in the future. So far, I have spent my time working, but also studying various areas of finance. But I'm wondering if those CFI courses would be a better option, since they actually reward you with a credential which can be put on a resume.

I have recently made the acquaintance of a former VP for 3 major IBs, hopefully I can speak to him more and establish a good connection.

But essentially, this is currently where I stand, it is obviously very difficult to find a job related to IB when you have just left high school, but I am hoping to get some great recommendations from those with real experience, as to what I can do with this time that would make me a better candidate in the future for internships.
