Mining & Metals Industry to PE

I work at a large mining & metals company in a 'fast track' leadership role and am in my late 20's. Im making good traction here and earn about AUD 180k and work about 60-70 hours a week. My next gig is coming up and total comp is about AUD 280k with probably similar hours. I am super interested in investing in the resources market (previously worked in equity research early on in my career) and have previously had an offer at a PE fund in Asia-Pac but turned it down. Im also interested in the fact that I have more control over my outcome, the opportunity build something great rather than follow the way of my large corporate and fit into the mould they like and genuine value creation. I could stay here and be quite comfortable but miss finance and am looking for something more entrepreneurial

I figure if I am going to make the effort for a big career switch, then I am keen to give it my best effort. We have a few resources PE firms in AU, but should I move to London and take a chance there? Or even NYC? I feel I can get a run in Australia, but not sure about London or even NYC. I can work in London quite easily but not the US.
