missed a phone interview, what should I do?
I was waiting for my phone interview today, and my cell phone had perfect signal, not on vibrate or silent. About 2 minutes after the scheduled time, my phone beeps and tells me there's a new voice mail, and it's my interviewer!! Somehow it didn't pick up when she called a minute before. I tried to call her back, but all I get is a voice message. I wrote an email too, to reschedule, but I still haven't heard anything from her. Do I still have a chance?
Actually this happened to my phone twice before, for no reason, but that was months ago. I called customer service and they said it might be cause my SIM card is too old.
that didn't sound as bad as it really is. The worst part is I probably left 3 messages on her phone: 2 that actually said things, and one that was probably just a hang up. Not to mention that additional 5 times that I called her with out leaving a message in the space of a half hour. And I didn't send her just one email, I sent two. The first said that I was trying to reach her. And the second, 2 hours later, said that I got a new SIM card and want to reschedule. Will she be really annoyed and not give me an interview anymore? I was totally unprepared that this would happen. But this woman actually just works in HR, so isn't this kind of her job, so it's not that bad?
i try to use land line for phone interviews if at all possible.
dont worry about it. I played phone tag for 4 days straight with someone and I got got the interview (its at end of this month).
Yeah they know that in a market like this you aren't purposefully snubbing them.

I had a first round interview for a lateral at a bb last week. yesterday i received a call from hr that regrettably i missed because i was tied up in a meeting. i called back about 20 min later, no answer, i left a message. i called back again later that evening and the once this morning w/ no answer.
is it apropos to ping the staffer at this point?
Calm down. If it's important (like a 2nd round interview or an offer) they will call you back.
ok so you're saying this isn't a good thing.
He's saying chill out and wait.
I'm chill as a cucumber, man.
If you were chill, you wouldn't be worried enough to ask what was going on.
ok you're right. i've heard stories on these boards about kids getting f*cked by incompetent hr so i wanted to be sure that i shouldn't try to nip it by emailing the staffer.
day-to-day though, probably still chiller than you.

Missed phone call for first round screen...pretty much screwed right? (Originally Posted: 01/14/2015)
FT applicant still looking for a job. See a posting a month ago for an entry level position at a great MM firm (maybe someone reneged there?). I apply immediately and send my resume off to my contacts there. Hear nothing for a month.
Get an unexpected email as I'm driving back from Texas to the midwest on Tuesday asking if I am available for a phone interview, preferably today (that Tuesday) since the group will be slammed the rest of the week. I let them know I could but I was driving and the coverage wasn't so great at times but if that was the best time to make it work I would make it work. Associate said to just wait until tomorrow (Wednesday) and at 10am he would make time to talk to me.
I'm pretty tired from driving so long the night before but I wake up early to prep. 10am rolls around and I start to wait for the call. 10:10...10:30...10:45...11...nothing I finally write it off as the associate being too busy (like he mentioned he was) or him getting dragged into something.
Called my mom later that night and she mentioned that she tried to call me this morning and it went straight to voicemail. Didn't think anything of it until a few seconds later (fack fack fack). Reset/rebooted my phone a few times and sure enough a voicemail from a 212 number appeared. Heading to the AT&T store tomorrow...
I quickly fired off an email apologizing and explaining what happened. Felt shitty for wasting an associate's time when he said it was gonna be a rough week for him and figured at best my chances were hurt a bit and at worst they would just move on from me. I go to a non-target too, so not a lot of room for error.
No reply from him yet (been a few hours). Obviously it depends on if he does/doesn't respond, but should I try to follow up again?
tl;dr
Associate at great firm was flexible with me and I missed his call and didn't realize it until 7 hours later...am I done?
Thanks guys
