Missed Opportunity

The fund I was mid-interview-process with just informed me that they won't be taking on any new analysts until late 2019 as they aren't sure any potential acquisitions they make are safe with the current political climate in Mexico.

I just went from my ideal RE career start directly back to square one. Anyone else ever have a slam-dunk blocked out of nowhere?

Any advice for a non-target, kind of old, non-industry guy breaking into acquisitions? This fund loved me but it was pure happenstance that I got to show the CEO that I had what it takes as I met him at a mutual friend's party.
