What are your long term goals?  These are both great but very different and will generally lead you down different paths. Of course ultimately a M7 MBA can be a total reset anyway so none of this is life defining. That said, if you know you want to be in deals / finance, PE makes sense. If you know you want to run an organization, MBB makes sense.

I ultimately want to run an organization, and (in the long run) care less about the deals / finance side of things. With that being said, the MM PE firm is very focused on value-add and often takes majority stakes, so I think I would have exposure to the operations side of things if I wanted. Additionally, I respect the foundation of financial modeling that PE would provide.

The smartest people I know are going into PE, whereas those going into MBB seem to be way less impressive. But does the personal growth of doing MBB in NYC far outweigh MM PE with fairly small deals in Boston?  Or has MBB really lost its lust?
