Hi friends, Is there any difference in Excel modeling between HF and IB? My guess would be that HF is more towards the 3-statements model and DCF and comparables while IB builds M&A models, LBO, etc... What are your thoughts? Thank you

from my conversations with some analysts, they said that at hfs initially they project out key things to do a quick assessment, but do build 3 statement models (even people in ib do this). After building 3 statement models, whether they'll use a dcf/comp analysis for valuation depends on time frame of holdings or nature of company. Sometimes they end up not doing dcf at all. From what I've read about ib, they do comps, dcf, lbo, etc - pretty much everything.
