Modeling on buyside?

When an analyst starts covering a new company and is required to build/update a model, how much time would you spend on balancing a model and making it perfect? Sometimes it is  time consuming to figure out why the model cannot be balanced and I would rather spend more time on company research, but I understand modeling is also very important. Just curious if balancing a BS/CF matters at all (given I capture all the drivers)? Thanks for advice.
