Moelis SF (tech) info + exit ops?
Haven't heard much about this group recently. They made the move from menlo to SF and added more people. Also advised on the recent broadcom hostile takeover. Does anyone have info about this group and about the exit ops?
.
Although I came from BB in NYC. I currently work for a Upper MM (~16 Bn ) Tech PE in the bay area, and can provide some color-
They have been doing pretty good as of late in terms of tech deals with few billion+ deals in the last 3-4 years. The guys I met while working on transactions were pretty laid back, but super sharp. Heard most of the senior people are from BB who were rain makers there and brought their clients over for more $$. Heard culture is pretty good unlike the NY office...
Don't have too much info on the exits per SF analyst class. However, I was surprised to see that during associate recruiting they were put in the same tier as the Moelis-LA office since two offices pretty much work in conjunction as "the West Coast team" in deals related to Tech. Think you will have interviews at most of MF/Upper MM funds on the westcoast and some eastcoast. Heard Moelis NYC doesn't place as well these days compare to the Westcoast offices so I would definitely pick this location if you had a choice.
Thanks. That's some great insight. I guess it will only continue to get bigger and improve. Do you have any other info about tech groups in the bay like Evercore or PJT? Where do these stand among Moelis?
PJT and Evercore are great in the tech space, but if I have to compare just for Westcoast offices in terms of Exit opps and Learning opportunities, Moelis is definitely the best among the 3 due to number of Moelis alumni in MF PE and top HF in LA/SF... [Moelis>Evercore>PJT]
If you were talking about NYC, its very different story- I would put Evercore M&A > PJT Rx > Moelis > PJT M&A > Evercore Rx
Interview for FT role for this office.
Hardest interview I have done prior to PE interviews... a LBO, M&A, 3 Statement modeling test. Definitely top shop on the W coast.
Not sure how it compared to amazing placement by LA office but Im sure its pretty on par
Heard they are pretty solid in terms of exits and sent few kids to MF PE and Top Growth funds, not sure on HF exits
Pay is same. Culture is better. Dealflow will still crush you. Heard expanding due to deal volume..
Exits on par with Moelis LA/GS tmt/MS tech/Qatalyst if you are aiming for top tier Tech Funds/HF on the Westcoast. Do not think they place well on the Eastcoast...could be wrong
Moelis NY isnt as good as it used to be...
If you are going to be in NY , take evercore
Heard qatalyst is not really great on exit opportunities as they tend to focus on developing career bankers. Had a friend there and she went onto be a PM at google, and her colleague went to Venture Capital
Definitely top group in SF along w Moelis LA office. Will get interviews at all the MF/PE/VC.
Agree w comments above if this is for NY you better find some other gig
Happy to share my thoughts as I used to work for Moelis SF Office, and now at MF (kkr, cvc, general atlantic, TPG, Silverlake of the world) growth quity shop. i loved my time at SF and working for the SF office ,and first its not like the typical Moelis office with the culture shown on the recent email leak. They seemed to have pretty good deal flow since moving from Palo Alto office with few mega deals per year. The deal flow means you will have to work hard but also means you will be getting a ton of hands on modeling experience. As far as post analyst years- The exits stellar and you will be getting looks from almost all the MF PE and Growth shops.
PM me for more details
How do they stack up against GS TMT

Why did I get monkey shit
Hey guys, just wondering if Moelis has wrapped up recruiting for LA and SF offices yet or are there still spots for a regular cycle?
Bump-
Close kid i know who is much younger, ( I am kind of his mentor), just got an SA offer from Moelis SF. Wanted to know how they are during PE recruiting if its on par with LA or NYC. And I mean like a regular PE, not growth or VC.
Read they worked in conjunction with LA on Broadcomm deal , but i thought LA office had TMT group too? just confused on how work is allocated or the SF analysts are viewed by Head hunters.
Your input will be much appreciated!
