Money Team: Mayweather Beats Mcgregor

Obviously Floyd won, but surprisingly Connor lasted until the 10th round and won the first few rounds. As an amateur boxer, he landed a few punches against the best defensive boxer in the world. That's very impressive. They both made more than $100M in 20 minutes and seemed to be best friends right after the fight ended. Floyd said “He’s a lot better than I thought he was.” The fight was not a disgrace to boxing after all!

I always thought Floyd was going to win, though I was honestly worried Connor got into his head, when I heard Floyd promise to be more offensive to "give the fans what they deserved" after a boring Pacquiao fight.

Does this mean Floyd is the best boxer to ever live? Will and should McGregor keep boxing? What did you think of the fight?

It was interesting to say the least. I really expected something different - either a shitty fight whereby the judges are trash and make a bad decision, another Mayweather snoozefest, or McGregor somehow winning. Basically, I anticipated a "boxing is rigged" fight. However this actually looked like a decent fight and went predictably from round 1, which these days in boxing is way more than exciting.

McGregor needed to win early (we knew that wouldn't happen), but as I was telling my crew as we watched it, Mayweather's defense game counted for a whole lot. He may have lost the early rounds but he was looking fresh even going into round 10, and he proved it with the way he began dominating McGregor. My only quip is that the ref stopped the fight early, but I guess you can't have an MMA and potential boxing star get demolished like that so early on in his career. The ref was probably instructed to stop the fight if it gets out of hand, and he did once the result was plain. I give the fight 8/10, worth watching, not worth the $100 for PPV, so I hope you saw it at a bar or split the cost with friends.

McGregor basically didn't land a punch after the 4th Rd and got pummeled for a minute straight without defending himself. Ppl die in the boxing ring bro, ref was right to end it. Lol at expecting a rigged match, amazing people think that could be possible with the amount of money those two were guaranteed (100 for Floyd, 30 for McGregor) not including the take from PPV.

Hey lol. I'm sure you've seen more than a couple boxing match outcomes that had you going "wait a minute...". But this was not that fight - it was entertaining, easy to follow for people who know what to look for, and even predictable in a sense. You're right that McGregor didn't land anything significant after the first rounds, too. Floyd was consistent throughout and he really showed how much of a professional he is. He came ready for a hurricane because that's what he's built himself to be, and McGregor delivered a tropical storm lol.

Ultimately it played out similar to what I expected. The only surprising thing to me was how much bigger Conor looked than Floyd. I mean I knew on paper he was slightly bigger but the numbers don't paint the picture of how large Conor's frame is (no homo tho). The actual outcome doesn't matter much for Conor. He was in a win-win situation regardless of what happened. Sure he didn't have the skillset or conditioning to win the match but he went 10 rounds against one of the greats and never has to work again the rest of his life. Only disappointment was that Conor gassed but it's not surprising at all and he still had the toughness to stay in there until he had absolutely nothing left. Nobody on earth can say that dude doesn't have balls to do what he did.

Some call it balls, some call it 100 mil. To be fair, I do respect him for coming to a different sport but still felt like Floyd controlled the whole match. He gave the first three rounds to McGregor and had all the amateurs thinking there was something there, but when it ended, to me it seemed like Floyd had played us all. At the very least, it was entertaining. Haven't seen him move like that since the pretty boy days.

I don't think McGregor can keep boxing. I mean he seemed like an amateur with the awkward clinching and the hammer fists. Plus he started looking incredibly sloppy around the fifth round. Most of all, he faced a 40 year old Mayweather who was very forgiving. I reckon he'd have to train for a good two years to get into actual boxing form. Even then, he still would not be pro level.

We clearly agree on this butI think Floyd played us all in that he was going to execute his strategy to win regardless of what people thought. Floyd has shown this so many times in his career and people still don't seem to get it. No matter what he says, what his opponent says, or what the media or fans say, he's going to execute his plan. So for instance in this fight people were saying Floyd should KO Conor in the first round because Conor is an amateur. Was Floyd ever going to do that? Of course not. That's not what he does. In his career he was always ALWAYS taken the safest and most effective route to victory. In this fight he knew Conor was going to be severely limited in conditioning and skillset. The clear plan was to feel out Conor's power in the first few rounds and then let Conor punch himself out. And he executed his plan flawlessly.

I don't think Floyd gives a shit that Conor won a few rounds. If you take a few pawns against a chess grandmaster that doesn't mean you ever had a chance to win. Maybe Floyd took a few shots he wasn't expecting but by round 3 he did not have any respect for Conor's power at all and that's why he could drown him by round 10 without worrying about receiving a lucky punch.

I love how everyone now seems to be praising Mayweather, while it was the complete opposite back in June when the Mayweather/McGregor threads were popping up lol a few of us called this exact outcome months ago. Mayweather strategically picked him apart and I have suspicion that he let it go until the 10th round because of a bet he place on himself.

They said Conor would knockout Floyd in the 4th. Now we have to give him credit for getting to the 10th.

Not the best ever nor is it even close. Best of his generation sure but how can he be the best ever when he waited years until his biggest foes were washed up to fight (Manny, Oscar, Mosley)? He absolutely lost vs Castillo and would've been outclassed by any top contender on Saturday. In reality, the best boxer is someone who can beat anyone and I'd have put Roy Jones Jr. above him on a pure talent comparison.

Non-boxing fans will only remember Floyd being 50-0, not who he fought against. That's why he did that - anyone who, in the future, says he fought his opponents past their prime will just be a hater in the eyes of most people.

Yeah I think people get caught up in the records too much. Deontay Wilder may very well be the next 50-0 guy but has fought nobodies and tomato cans. Sugar Ray Robinson absolutely obliterates Floyd's accomplishments.

Kinda disagree on that last part considering most people who watch boxing are latinos and more than likely are Canelo or De La Hoya fans.

If you believed this fight would end any differently than how it did, i don't know what to tell you. 0-0 vs 49-0... Mayweather coasted until round 8 to give the fans a show, then decided to end it in round 10. Mayweather was able to walk forward instead of run away like normal because he was in no danger the entire time and didn't respect McG.
