More attractive guys on trading floors?

Hi,

At the end of my banking internship, I was given two choices. One is to continue as a banking analyst and the other is to become a salesperson within the same firm. Although I have no background in S&T, I'm more inclined to accept the S&T offer because I honestly don't want to work long hours in IBD. But also because I couldn't help but notice guys on the trading floor are much more attractive and sociable. Is it just a coincidence?

P.S. I have a bf.

Think it makes sense that sales people in particular would be more likeable and friendly than bankers because they talk to clients all the time. I know whenever I am networking, I love talking to sales guys because the good ones (ones that have been there for 10-15+ years) know how to talk and are genuinely enjoyable to talk to.

Read tags morons.....

This is not an issue I understand, if i wanted to be around pretty people i would work in fashion. I would work in the job I understand the role in and can apply myself wholeheartedly. You would feel really stupid if those pretty traders left and you would be stuck in yet another department.

Anyway, judging what I can about you from your post, I can genuinely say I hope we never meet. We would not get on.

Enjoy the next few years of your life, because you will look back on them with regret and it would be a shame if you did not even enjoy them.

Well, I'm in the fashion industry now. Trust me, most people are bitches. And I actually enjoyed my banking internship.

Let me rephrase my original comment: S&T guys at the Analyst level are more sociable and fun to talk to, and I like the atmosphere of the trading floor.

Wait so you have a boyfriend but you want to work on the trading floor because you think S&T guys are more attractive??? Because that TOTALLY makes sense

You don't understand women

If you were a guy in a majority-female industry you'd think the same way. No rational thought required. And if you don't then youre gay.

Honestly if you're looking for attractive guys just go to the bar. There are plenty of guys you are going to find attractive and likewise and you won't even get in trouble, besides with your "boyfriend" lol.

My only advice would be to accept the offer where you are most comfortable. It sounds like you enjoy the social aspect more of the people who work in S&T than in the banking side. Take the sales position if you think you'll be more happier there.

Good luck.

As a hetero male, I can say you are correct, the people who work in markets tend to look better and live better lifestyles than their banking counterparts, particularly at the junior level. Also, I found bankers to be more likely to be lifeless souls that lacked human interaction skills than people in S&T, although it would be a mistake to assume that everyone working in S&T is great to talk to or stare at for extended periods of time.

haha no, Nebular. i'm not looking for attractive guys. They just happen to be there.

I've also found junior bankers and fellow SAs in my group to be lifeless, shy and amazingly out of touch with trends outside finance. Turns out that's actually ideal because I don't want to be harassed or gossiped about, and I fear that may happen if I go to the markets side.

And sorry to disappoint but I'm not a troll :) I wish to remain anonymous online, at least until I decide to join the sales force. I must make up my mind asap. In the meanwhile HR and recruiters keep calling me..
