Morgan Stanley wealth management analyst
Hello everyone, longtime lurker recently starting posting.
I have an interview coming up in a month or so for the position of a summer wealth management analyst intern with Morgan Stanley. I interned last summer with them at a different office doing private wealth management, which i learned a little bit but really didn't do a whole lot. Im coming from a semi target university with pretty good grades, but i know im going to be competing with kids from ivy leagues and other top schools. I already know some of th epeople through net working and have some great connections into the firm, so i really want to prepare and crush the interview.
I was just curious if anyone out there has gone to this type of interview, and what type of questions to expect. My last internship interview for PWM was pretty basic, not many technical questions and they wanted to get a feel for who I was. Would greatly appreciate some interview tips for this as well as what type of quetions to expect. Also if there is any skills or knowledge I should specifially learn for the interview. Obviously i follow the markets and try to keep up with whats going on, but for a wealth managemtn analyst im not sure exactly what to expect since its not really S and T, or IB.
Thanks for the responses.
They don't expect PWM interns to know a lot about wealth management itself. When I interviewed for PWM, they explain a lot of the business to you there and mainly just want to get a feel of how interested you are and your experience. Definitely leverage your experience last summer at MS.
From my experience, PWM guys love when you've had a gig in PWM and show that you learned a lot from it and are interested. I didn't do too much either when I was in PWM, but surely you must have learned something that you can ramble on for a bit during the interview. You'll stand out a lot more because in PWM interviews, the Financial Advisor who is interviewing usually has to do a lot of the explaining since the candidates don't really know much about it. If you can have a good chat with the interviewer about what you learned and can engage them about their thoughts on the state of PWM and the markets, Financial Advisors have told me that those guys look much better in their eyes.

Hi, I was recently contacted by MS for to come down to NY next week for an interview with a specific group for a PWM internship. I got the interview/internship possibility through a connection. I'm currently a freshman aspiring to do IB and am from a non-target school majoring in finance. Has anyone gone through a MS PWM interview or internship (or any PWM interview) and could give a few tips as to how to prepare for the interview or what type of questions I can expect?
It's fit and market related... Usually more of a discussion ... Know what's going on in the markets and current events .... Prepare a few anecdotes that portray you in a positive light working in a group or leadership situations , Thinking analytically etc. just be yourself and let the conversation flow ... It's really more about fit and market knowledge than actualy technicals
Was your connection through networking or was it personal?
It was a personal connection.

I'ts geared toward international students but you should be able to make use of it anyway

Why did you post the exact same topic here : http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/morgan-stanley-wealth-management-…
sorry first time posting on WSO
I had a PWM phone interview with GS recently...mostly market related questions to see if you follow the news and have an actual interest in the markets. Things like whats the YTD return on the S&P (this was in 2013), pitch me a stock, where is the Dow trading at, tell me about current events, questions on GS's stock and company, etc.
As long as you track the markets and read WSJ or watch CNBC you should be in decent shape.

they most probably would tell you (or better yet, have hr tell you) if they werent going to make you an offer.
honestly, if i were you, id just go with the golf thing and then find something fun to do for the summer. youre just a freshman, which means that by the time you hit junior/senior recruiting, most probably hiring will be back to normal
Morgan Stanley PWM Interview - Full time position (Originally Posted: 12/07/2011)
I have an interview for a full time position in pwm at Morgan Stanley next week and I was wondering if anyone had any experience either interviewing or working in this sort of capacity. Thanks
I grew up in the same town as the ED for the whole division and I can actually see his family accountants office from my house.
Just have a good story that demonstrates your passion for Finance, I can't imagine a PWM interview getting technical. A few years back I did an interview for PWM for BAML and I was literally out in less than 5 minutes, they basically check for a heartbeat.
