Mormon invasion in banking

In all seriousness, I am beginning to notice a huge penetration of Mormons in banking and senior leaders at many of the most reputable firms on street openly marketing their religion for everything from networking to even recruiting. I honestly don't care for people's beliefs as long as it remains out of the workplace, but is it just me or does anyone find this creepy? The evidence is surmounting with insane placements from schools like BYU on par with Wharton (wtf?) and GS all of a sudden with their Salt Lake City operations.

Disclaimer: I am an atheist.

I think mormon's are highly recruited because they have a very high level of discipline. If you think about it, they can't drink, swear, or even take in caffeine. It could also be a diversity thing

I actually take back my post. Was going to reply "but the religion is explicitly advertised and isn't it borderline discrimination to recruit people for their religion?". Then I remembered wonderful things like diversity recruiting for blacks, latinos, native americans.

the LDS network is a very strong network in business for whatever reason. those folks take care of each other, and unless you see a whole bunch of incompetent mormons running things (i highly doubt that they're incompetent), there shouldn't be an issue. buck up old chap.

also, keep in mind that a devout mormon boy will turn down Harvard to go to BYU in many cases because religion is his priority. i wouldn't be surprised if the upper echelon of students at BYU were on par with kids at many of the target schools.

this. The OP is "beginning" to see this phenomenon? Invasion/penetration? These networks have been in place for a while already. BYU was already a target.

This actually has less to do with religion and more to do with the fact that you can go to BYU for free and pocket everything you make in banking because you have no student loans. 31+ ACT = Free Tuition. (Though tuition is normally $4800/year at BYU)

We'd all rather go to Harvard, but it's simple economics

While it's definitely true that BYU is cheaper, the 31+ ACT for free tuition isn't true. I got a 32 on the ACT with a 3.85 GPA and I didn't get any scholarships at BYU.

The mormon's I've met seem like they'd be easy to work with. The idea of a horrible Associate/VP/MD who is also mormon just doesn't seem congruent in my mind.

They probably bother me less than devoutly religious people of other denominations. They generally don't try to convert you; I guess they get it out of their system during the missionary phase.
