Quite frankly, I think the whole study is bs because 'prestige' is not rigorously defined (the mathematician in me hates such things). However, it is interesting to note that by whatever definition they make up in thier mind, people seem to concede that the best paying are least prestigious. Scientists teachers, and firefighters are ranked most prestigious (presumably some kind of 'they give unselfishly to society' bs) while bankers, relal estate agetns, and actors are the least prestigious ('they make lots of $$ for themselves').
I'm not even going to go on a rant about how teachers are perfectly well compensated relative to value add. Think bankers could get more prestige by adding a little fire to the mix or mingling with children? lol
P.S. Another definition issue: bankers? As in- investment bankers or commercial bankers...or even bank tellers. I'm sure a lot of people hardly considered the difference.

As you said, poor study because they don't define prestige properly. The way that I understand prestige (and the way I had thought that society understood) is that it goes hand-in-hand with exclusivity. Peace corps and teach for america are prestigious because they are really difficult programs to get into. Same with T10 b & law schools, ibanking, top legal careers, and top medical careers.
