Move from Equity Research to Corporate Investor Relations in Singapore?
Hi Guys,
Would like your thoughts on my potential career move below. This is a pivotal time for me as I plan to stay in a similar role for the next 10-20 years and rise up the ranks/no more career switches.
Would prefer answers specific to Singapore but others are welcome - I have been offered a mid-to-senior level role in IR at one of Singapore's Top 10 largest public listed companies, with a decent salary rise (+10%). I don't have any actual IR experience but I have worked 3+ years in private banking as an assistant RM (mainly helping out with account opening, fund transfers, client servicing, admin related work - but I pitched that I developed strong communication skills), and 1 year in equity research at a small research broker (currently still there).
Due to recent family circumstances, I have received a decent inheritance enough to cover housing for the rest of my life, but also got a bit burned out mentally- and now I am looking less towards high intensity jobs (working >11 hrs on daily basis/working weekends), and more of something stable but still pays above average in the finance/banking/accounting industry (assuming I do well at my job and have decent promotions).
Can I get your thoughts on the following?
- Is the pay of IR at a large publicly listed firm considered above average? (compared to typical audit/accounting analysts, back/middle office analysts at banks)
- My preferences are a stable job with 10 - 11 hour work days and occasional weekends (1-2x a month), a job that marries both investments (technical skills) and people skills - although more skewed to people skills - Is IR the best route for me? What other roles would be suitable?
- Would you recommend PE IR to me given the work-life balance/lifestyle I want?
Apologies for the personal info bit in there but I had to put it in for context. Appreciate honest feedback please.
Dorothy-Si, sorry there are no responses yet. Maybe one of these topics can point you in the right direction:
