Move from San Francisco banking to NYC PE

I'm a first year analyst at a middle market bank in NYC in the tech group, and I've been asked if I could move out to San Fran and build out our tech practice out there. I'm very open to the idea of moving to the San Fran to continue my tech banking experience. However, I don't know how difficult it would be to break into a buyside gig in NYC if I do go out to San Fran.

My ideal scenario would be the following: I fly out to San Fran, and work in the office for 2 years. In the meantime, I would find a middle market PE / growth equity fund in NY, and I would be back in New York after my 2 years in San Fran.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm making the assumption that moving out to San Francisco will generally increase my chances of getting into a buyside. I'm now trying to understand what it would take for me to return to NY after 2 years at San Francisco.
