With so many people moving to the buy side and leaving finance how competitive is it to lateral to a top EB/BB after your analyst or associate stint? Is it relatively feasible to move upstream as you already have more experience than the people coming from B-School?

It's easy in that you have experience so you have a leg up. But it's still competitive / it's not a shoo in.
Have you seen people go upstream (ie from a smaller m and a bank like Foros to a BB)?
No - I’ve heard the name but no idea who they are honestly.
For these really small banks, or these smaller banks, one issue is that there is less transferable experience as well. If you’re at a co-manager shop or do private placements, yes it’s banking, but you offer nothing to banks whose focus is on billion dollar M&A.
If you get it, most likely you get pulled back several years (but should be worth it to those who are trying to make the move).
What about a place like M. Klein and co where you're doing 1b+ M & A?
dont know. But they are a real shop — i have a friend there and i dont think their interview process is a joke. Judging by his personality, they’re probably quite technical.
Evercore has an MD that lateraled as VP from Foros. Didn't have to give up any tenure or the like. TBH, I don't know much about the shop but did see some discussion on here comparing it to the likes of M. Klein as a boutique that gets serious mandates
