Moving from back office to corporate development/strategy
Hi all- I recently joined WSO and was a former Associate at a hedge fund in CT, working in the back office for the derivatives group. After approximately 4 years, I decided to leave the firm to pursue a new career path. I am interested in corporate development and corporate strategy, and have been looking at analyst/entry level positions. I have taken courses at NYU to enhance my knowledge and have exhausted all of my contacts, but I am still having trouble getting an interview. Any thoughts/recommendations? Appreciate your help!
BO To Corporate Development (Originally Posted: 06/04/2013)
Hey Guys,
I have been slowly making my way from a BO position at a bulge bracket job to a FO position. Here's my story:
It sounds like the compensation is going to be lower than what I've read on this forum (then again I'm comparing to blue chip F500 companies).
I was wondering do you think there would be a chance for PE exit opportunities or at least a decent B School?
If I work in healthcare, am i pigeon holding myself to healthcare? I considered staying in valuation, but i'm thinking the exits won't be as good as if I move into a corporate M&A position.
Anyways, this would be a cross country move for me, so I just want to make sure I'm setting myself up for something that can really move my career along. Its been, a long arduous trek from the hell hole that is the BO, it looks like things are finally starting to look up.
TIA
Hey,
Did you ever get any answers to your questions here? I am in a similar situation (valuation firm not big 4) and want to go into corporate development in health care, but want to do it post MBA. Did you make it in? I am trying to figure out if I could make that switch.
