Moving From Big 4 to a Marketing Role
Hi Everyone
So a little background on me first. I'm a first year at a Big 4 in a major market (Chicago, NY) and have been working at my firm for about 5 months now. Late in my college career I had an opportunity to do a consulting project that consisted of designing a launch plan for a major electronics company and I absolutely loved it. I was way too far down the line to switch majors but pursued marketing on the side doing things like social media for small nonprofits.
My question is has anyone heard of anyone making this transition? I'm sure they are few and far between but what would be the best way to approach this? My plan is to approach things much like I would if I wanted to switch into IB. I'm going to network my ass off and attempt to make the switch as early as possible, which is why I've already started looking and making connections. If that doesn't work out I think doing Big 4 for a few years then getting a MBA in marketing would work. Either way I want to do the MBA so I can get into Brand Management.
What do you guys think? Doable? Am I starting to search to early?
Its common to see ex big 4, consultants and ex banking analysts in F500 marketing roles like brand management. Check out jobs for google and some of the big CPG's; experience doing big 4 is very helpful. Not sure if 5 months experience is enough to qualify, many do the 2 years as an analyst out of UG and then move in and network.
To be honest I would wait at least until a title change(2-3 years) so you can really leverage your expierence. But there is the issue of being pigeonholed into your current role, be aware of that.
