Moving out West on the buy side after AM program. Doable?

I did a search and was surprised to see very little on AM exit ops. I'm sure few people leave the industry though. I recently started my stint in FI research at a firm with $100bn AUM. After obtaining the CFA I am hoping to move to the West Coast. Should I be gearing up for a lateral to a larger fund or making some other buy side move? I've noticed Black Rock has a few offices out West, but I know working with bonds narrows the options for me.

There's little on AM exit opps because AM is a good gig! Tons of fixed income research out west if you do some research. BlackRock is in the bay, but I'm not sure if there's a lot of fixed income there as my understanding was that their research group was in NYC. I could be wrong so if anyone has more accurate info feel free to chime in.
