Moving Teams - Step Back to Take Two Forward?
What are your thoughts on taking a position on another team at a lower title/band than your current position?
Basically I've been working iin various closing/underwriting position but have wanted to work in credit or asset management for a while. I have an opportunity to move to one of those teams internally to one of those teams, but based on the title/job grade it would be a "step down" (although I'm fairly certain my salary would stay the same), essentially going to an analyst title. That being said there is more upside in the future for compensation and it's the type of work I'd like to do anyway.
Anything you'd want to know beforehand? Anyone have a positive experience doing this?
Title means nothing.
If you can maintain salary and the responsibilities strike a chord with you then go for it.
Also, if title really bothers you I am sure they'd bump you if you asked.
If you want to get exposure in the new position and think it will help expand your knowledge base/advance your career do it. I took a 60% pay cut and title cut to transition from brokerage to development.
I took a similar hit to comp and a title cut to move to the principal side.
I think the decision has worked out quite well for me.
Agree with the above I took the same comp hit to make the same move. If it's what you think you want do/learn and there's additional upside then I'd do it in a heartbeat.
