Moving to BS after only 8 months

I’m on the sell side, top BB working for a Top 3 ii ranked manager in a hot sector. I finished all regulatory exams within a month of starting and essentially have my own coverage with the manager having the last word in terms of projections. I really like my team but the sell side was never my end goal and I currently feel that I’ve reached a level of knowledge I am comfortable with.

Now my question is, if I apply to the buy side, will I be given a fair look or are my 8 months of work experience not enough? Also, when applying to places should I apply for analyst or associate positions? Does it even matter? I read that usually the buy side will approach analysts on the sell side rather than sell side analysts actually applying to jobs. Is that true? Also, I’m very interested in event driven funds, how does one break into those as they’re extremely hard to network with from ER

I’d appreciate any type of guidance very much.
