Moving to consulting from MS in science?
I'm looking for advice on transitioning to consulting jobs from a sciences background with a science masters degree. There is info out there on going from a phd to consulting but no much from masters to consulting. My background is an undergrad in Comp Sci and finishing a masters in Molecular Biology(highly computational and statistical thesis), with 3.0 gpa in undergrad from a non-target state school and a 3.5 gpa in grad school from a much better state school but still a non-target.
I read that phds have a higher entry level than fresh undergrads going into analyst position. Where would a non-mba science masters likely be hired at? What level of firms should I realistically be looking at? And would I be pigeonholed into only tech consulting jobs due to my background?
I'd aim for smaller shops focused on healthcare/biotech or maybe even VC, also consider industry as a back up.
For MBB you'd almost assuredly be recruiting for post-undergrad spots. Only PhD's, JD's, and MBA's get hired at the next rung up.

I have a degree in Biology (ivy) and have worked in basic science, biomedical device/pharma and clinical research for the past three or so years with multiple publications. I hate it. Thus, I have also taken micro/macroecon courses, as well as a few post-bacc business admin, accounting, statistics, marketing and management courses in preparation of jumping ship.
Would there be any way for me to break into consulting as an analyst? Are most firms looking for straight business/finance backgrounds? What are most of these (life science/pharma) firms looking for in general? Would it help to learn some SAS programming? I'm familiar with a bit of STATA, but not extensively.
Also, though I'm not sure if this would affect anything, I am female. To my understanding, it seems that the consulting industry seems to favor peacocking males, though I may be wrong. Thanks for any help!
