Moving to London UK from Canada..any advice?
I will be moving to London from Canada sometime in the second half of this year. Currently working in appraisal and have been for the past 3 years (since graduation). I am hoping to land a role in acquisitions or asset management upon my move to London. I have a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a focus in Real Estate, wrapping up an appraisal designation and have completed my CFA Level 1.
Does anyone have any advice on the best way to proceed? How can I best position myself for success? Other than the obvious ones, which companies are worth checking out? Thanks in advance.
mylc, sorry there are no responses yet. Maybe one of these topics can point you in the right direction:
If those topics were completely useless, don't blame me, blame my programmers...
How did the move go? Any advice you can share from your experience? Thinking of doing the same on the Youth Mobility Scheme visa.
I would jump onto the RICS site and figure out what level of membership you may be entitled due, based on reciprocal agreements.
What exactly where you hoping to do? If you want Property-Property jobs there are plenty and RICS will open those doors, if you want more Property-Finance type jobs, then RICS may not be necessary.
I imagine for both Acquisitions and AM you would need membership, but I could be mistaken about that, I am not familiar with many AM without RICS (in the early days at least).
What exactly is RICS? Sounds similar to the AACI designation offered in Canada? Also are you suggesting it more for the networking opportunities or for the actual designation they offer?
Currently working in acquisitions so would be looking for something more finance oriented. Would likely opt for the sell-side for the social aspect though.
