MSc Finance: Bocconi or St. Gallen?
Hello everybody,
I am Hungarian undergraduate with offers from the University of St. Gallen (Master's in Banking and Finance) and Bocconi University (Masters in Finance) - both in English. I am curious about your opinion on which would be better for me to take.
Background info:
I have a strong interest in corporate valuation (and equity research) and would ideally work at a HF/PE fund after graduation. I already have experience in long-only investments and would like to do this full time later.
I speak German at a low-C1 level but no Italian (would learn it if I go to Bocconi).
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.
With your German skills and the potential to significantly increase them (during/after studies), St. Gallen places well in D/A/CH.
Can't say how Bocconi would fare. Do you have any ideal cities to be placed?
If you want to work in Switzerland, pick St Gallen; otherwise Bocconi.
No ideal cities yet, but I feel like maybe it's better to start my career in Switzerland (low income tax etc.).
What makes you say that Bocconi is better in every other case expect I want to work in Switzerland?
Stronger alumni network, more detailed courses, better international and European brand recognition. St. Gallen is well known regionally as someone said, but everywhere else Bocconi carries more weight. Plus, you'll have much more fun in Milan than in St. Gallen.
Thank you for your reply.
Somewhat different question, but would you say that for my career plan (public/private equity research) it is not necessarily better to have the option to start in Switzerland?
If you want to work in the DACH region St.Gallen is the right pick. Nonetheless, if you are really set on ER then pick Bocconi. To maximize your chances of breaking into the ER industry you will have to apply to London, and Bocconi is better than St.Gallen when it comes to London recruiting.
Hi, I am planning to apply for both schools. Would you mind sharing your gmat score? It would be helpful
Hi!
Total score was 740. Quant was 49, verbal 42.
Hope it helps.
What did you end up choosing?
