OSU is a complete non-target. I'm sure if your grades are good you can probably land a finance position at an Ibank in Oklahoma. Oklahoma banks can't get people from "target" universities to come live in Oklahoma so they usually recruit from local universities like OSU and OU.
If you plan on being in Oklahoma for the long term then your chances are good, but if you plan on moving to Texas or the east coast then your degree will not be worth much.
He's clearly refering to Ohio State University...
He's probably talking about Ohio State. I think it's a new-ish program; curious about this as well.
50k is just too fucking much if you ask me but hey if you think its worth it, tear it up.
50k is ridiculous..I went to IIT Chicago for 25k..which is a good deal considering the location..gives you lots of opportunites to nertwork.its a different story that internationals are finding tough to land a job.. .
@Nuk - would love a review of your program
@OP - OSU is a huge school, with a lot of alumni and a well known brand. Outside of MIT and Princeton, the MSF space is dominated by strong alumni, sports based schools.
I know the program well and the director knows what he is doing. Program is putting a strong emphasis on recruiting and networking and I strongly believe that the program will give you much better odds at obtaining the position that you want. Network, do well in the program and you will be able to get the opportunity that you are looking for.
Yeah I am talking about Ohio State University. I dont know how come Oklahoma came into this discussion :S Plus I am not international, I am a legal permanent resident of US.
Thanks to ANT for the valuable feedback. I always respect ur suggestions :)
If anybody else have additional valuable feedback abt the program, please provide. Ignore the tuition element bcoz u also have to consider time value of money as I have to wait 1 more year if I want to go to other universities. Plus if I can manage a job after graduation, tuition wont matter. So the main question is, will I get a shot at ibanking from this program, ignoring random outcomes (such as another recession or huge natural disaster) ??
Also please provide abt this topic; whether to major to Corporate Finance or Investment Management. Since the US economic condition is still so so and in fact there is possibility dat things may get worse and since many BB banks are in fact downsizing, do u still suggest to pursue for ibanking ??? I know OSU is still not upto leagues of IVY leagues or schools such as NYU or Stanford so I know it will still be challenging for me to enter into ibanking. So shud I go for stable Corporate Finance segment which is in stable demands ??? What are the pros and cons of these 2 fields ??

If you want to do IB,you will take the corporate finance concentration, not investment management...
PS from a potential classmate
Lol I think I can guess who u r .....
Anyways are u sure Corporate Finance is meant for IB ??? :S :S I thought the major is meant for working inside corporations, not the banking sector .........
You are confusing corporate finance (F500) with corporate finance classes. My Corp finance dealt with LBO transactions, etc.
If you want to learn banking relevant info, take the Corp finance track.
Ok as far as I know, OSU's corporate finance is meant for F500 companies. I mean dats wat it also says in their MBA program. I am not 100% sure and dats y I am asking. Cud u please tell me by looking at this link if u have some time??? It mentions the courses for particular majors. You will understand.

http://www.cob.ohio-state.edu/smf/curriculum/electives/[/quote] Please type like you know how to speak English. That and listen to ANT
Courses:
Advanced Corporate Finance Financial Institutions Private Equity Legal Environment for Business Corporate Financial Reporting
Those are the courses you need.
Courses such as Fixed Income of Stock Market are needed only if you want specifically DCM or ECM.
thanks :) .... I was actually confused bcoz this particular major had many courses common with Corporate Finance Track of MBA program. And in dat track, most of the graduates are working in F500 companies.
I think you were the inspiration behind this.

Guys, any ideas about Fisher MSF interview? Its a online video interview (they did not give me online or on campus interview). It has got six questions, I guess those questions are standard for everybody? anyone being through this?

If you're already working in corporate finance and are on CFA level 3, just stick it out and get into a good MBA program. OSU SMF isn't going to put you in really any better position than you're in now.
