Musical instruments
Do any monkeys play musical instruments? Personally, I have been playing the piano since I was a little kid. Anyone here play the piano, violin, etc... ? No guitar or heavy metal drum bullshit please, let's keep it civilized here.
I was wondering why you got monkey shit thrown at you, until I saw
Too bad my man.
I play the clarinet, saxophone, flute, and some piano, but wish I learned guitar or heavy metal drums instead.
Guitar player here, I don't care if I got shit on... OP sounds like a fucking pussy.
.
Those are solo piano compositions you clown. Try playing All the Things You Are by Joe Pass on that piano.
Good luck with that.
I play keyboard/Piano. A steinway model b and a place with a room big enough to fit it is my dream. But I would take a nice digital pipe organ setup with 2 manuals and 32 key pedal board.
I'm not a well rounded player though. I play JS Bach and nothing else. That dude was the greatest genius of all time -- music or otherwise.
For those that play the piano (Originally Posted: 09/02/2012)

Easily the best thing i've heard on the instrument in years.
Peace out Chavs,

I find Lang Lang to be too technical. Valentina Lisitsa is better imo.
I don't play unfortunately, but my brother does and he is a musical genius, I grew up listening to phenomenal music as he improvised. I don't listen to modern compositions now really, only classical works. Thanks for sharing very much, great music on a cloudy Sunday afternoon.
Thanks mate, really beautiful.
I might actually learn it when i finish what i'm learning at the moment.
Update: I emailed the guy to ask for a discount if i bought all his music (he doesnt have the album in sheet music), he emailed back instantly saying yes he is, in a week or so.
Sent me a freebie of the Song its pretty doable.

Hi all,
Just curious - who here still actively plays? Can be a hobby or in group, anything.
I have an acoustic and an Epiphone SG-400 Single Coil electric. Starting to get back into it so it's a rough road ahead.
I play guitar and heavy metal drums.
I have a convertible that has an 8 track.
I've played since I was in 8th grade. Love it and wish I had more time to devote to a somewhat serious band. Ive played small acoustic gigs with friends, such a great feeling. I've got one of the lowest-end Taylor models as an acoustic, still really nice, an American Deluxe Strat, Blues JR Tweed, and I spent a year saving up to buy a small boutique amp which sounds great but I never get to play it outside of the house.

edit: dunno why the embedded vid isn't working but go to youtube and search: 'John Fahey - Poor Boys Long Way From Home' there's a live version, that's the one im talking about.
Took me about 2 months to really learn John Fahey's version of Poor boys long ways from home. Looks easy but those hammer ons are pretty rough
Vintage Ludwig drumset Roland electronic drumset G&L electric Martin acoustic Washburn mandolin
And only ~20 minutes a day to play something.
You have enough space to house two drum sets??
I do for a little bit at least 5 days a week. Usually only for 10-15 minutes a day.
I play the shit out of the radio.
Came across this Dave Grohl quote just a few hours ago and posted it on Twitter. I think he's got a point:
Martin D15 mahogany accoustic Ibanez RG770 with Line 6 POD Classical guitar, custom made A Ukelele from Costco :) ...and some 18 string thing I picked up years ago and never figured out how to play
I'd really like to pick up an Ibanez S Series at some point, but I just don't have time to play much lately beyond scales/warmups to prevent loss of all ability :/
At first I thought you were going off-topic/trolling, but then I read everything. Great insight btw, I do feel like the typical garage bands are becoming more scarce; everyone wants to be the next American Idol, whereas that doesn't necessarily mean you won't succeed elsewhere; Idol is for pop, imo.
Played electric guitar for around 11 years now. Currently have: - Jackson Demmelition V (USA) - Gibson Les Paul Studio - Fender Stratocaster - Some no-brand semi-acoustic
I try and play every day but usually end up playing 5-10 hours a week.
"Get a second-hand guitar, chances are you'll go far, if you get in with the right bunch of fellows"
I'm glad this thread took off a bit.
Great quote by Grohl Edmundo
I've been playing guitar basically my whole life. I'm playing classical now (I even have a lute...) which is great because I can play solo pieces, or group work if I can find others to play with. I always associated electric guitars with a band, which I don't have time for.
This is a great thread. A whle ago i had to decide to go to school for music or accounting. I chose accounting--music is something I love, and I never wanted to spoil it by forcing it to become a job. Now I play strictly for pleasure.
No :(. Keep the acoustic set at a buddy's place.
I play guitar. Blues, metal, classical and a bit of folk fingerstyle.
