My shirts don't fit
I think it's a combination of actually losing weight and just buying pre-fitted shirts. The idiots who measure me must not be accurate because the sleeves aren't perfect length either.
What's your recommendation on getting good-fitting shirts? Do you have to get them tailored to get them to fit perfectly?
short term fix: learn how to properly tuck in your shirt, you can hide a lot of excess that way and just make the shirt look form fitted. google military tuck.
To find an actual fitted shirt, go to a well respected clothier tell them exactly what you want and what you want to avoid. ask them to write down your measurements exactly. afterword go online and find a retailer that makes custom shirts and input your new metrics. Buy slim fit.
Thanks. How do you go about getting your sizing? Just walk into brooks brothers, be like "measure me", and then just walk out lol? Should I buy one shirt just so I'm not taking advantage?
Go to a suit supply or Charles tyrwhitt and get extra slim fit shirts (look for $30 sales on the CT shirts). Or get them custome made. Just look for more European cut or extra slim fit.
Long term solution: gain weight

Get some custom shirts. Right now I've been liking Black Lapel but any similar company should do.
Charles Tyrwhitt: The ease of ordering, quality of shirts, and price makes it a go to for everyday shirts.
What's the mix of custom vs. off the rack for 1st year analysts?
I always had an issue with Charles Tyrwhitt slim fit as they are too tight around the chest relative to the waist. Love their slim fit weekender shirts for the untucked look though.
I started buying Bonobos dress shirts with their tailored slim fit. The chest is a little tight but doesn't stretch the buttons, and the tapering around the waist is perfect. If your waist is in the 32-35 range, and your chest is in the 40-44 range, i suggest giving them a shot. They have a great return policy and quick shipping.
I have your problem. 32 waist 44 chest. will check out bonobos, thanks
ProperCloth.com is my go-to. I have 38 inch arm length, 47 inch chest, 36 inch waist - yeah thats not happening off the rack. It takes a few iterations with the made-to-measure websites but you can really get them perfect after a while. Then of course you can tailor them further if necessary.
