Nail In the Coffin
The same publication that began the spectacle that is Elizabeth Holmes's decline... The Wall St. Journal seems unrelenting with their Theranos stories. It looks like they are in for more hard times.
Theranos Slashes Staff, Voids More Test Results
laid off 155 employees Friday. The cuts come after 340 employees were laid off in October, and leave the firm with about one-quarter the staff it had in August. The Silicon Valley company, which once promised to reshape the medical-testing industry, said it
It's actually quite sad driving by and seeing their mega building empty, with nothing but security guards roaming around. It stands as a testament to what is becoming Silicon Valley hubris. Maybe I'm late in noticing this, or perhaps this was a one-off?
Is this the last nail in the coffin for the would-be Steve Jobs?
EDIT: A tad old, but nonetheless excellent article regarding this story.
EXCLUSIVE: HOW ELIZABETH HOLMES’S HOUSE OF CARDS CAME TUMBLING DOWN
Bro she was fucked as soon as her story of fraudulent bullshit leaked. Good riddance.
With all of the amazing things Silicon Valley has given us, I'm not sure what you're implying. It is foolish to take a single highly publicised failure and make vague statements based on that.
The investors who invested into Holmes's ideas without scientifically verifying their plausibility first are the biggest fools in this fiasco and deserve to be shamed.
Silicon Valley has probably created more value than any other place in the world; however, I have noticed that in recent years there is a growing sense of entitlement, or more accurately hubris in regard to everything that is attempted. Startups with no real product or direction are making grandiose claims that rarely come to fruition. It's great to see the attempts, but I think a dose of humility would do some good.
That's always been the case in Silicon Valley. Indeed, this optimism and irrational exuberance is probably why they're so innovative in the first place: aim for the stars and you'll land on the moon (or Mars?)?
Good point, and I don't want to detract from their accomplishments. Perhaps I'm just jaded to it at this point.
More realistically they will land about a foot from where they jumped.
