Need A Change of Scenery

This is more of a venting post more than anything but not a "boohoo woe is me" post.

I swear I need a change of scenery big time. I've been at my REPE fund accounting job almost 2 years in July. Started there 2 months after graduating from a non-target. I didn't have an internship in college, so I was struggling during my job search leading up to graduation.

I was pretty desperate at the time knowing how many bills I'd have once student loan payments kicked in so my buddy at this firm reached out to me with a referral link. As a finance/econ grad, I had no interest whatsoever in accounting but I took the job for the money. Wasn't a lot at all but definitely paid more than the retail bank I was at. Not to mention I figured being exposed to REPE would help with moving on elsewhere after a few years.

I hate this job. I hate it so much. And sadly they don't really do much else here that I would be interested in internally transferring to. The company itself is great, despite severely underpaying us compared to the national average. I'm talking about $18k less than average.

To make matters worse, I don't even know what I want to do in life. Which makes any job search more difficult. I thought I wanted to do IB out of college, but the no internship/non-target slowed that process down, and now being closer to 30 than 20, there's no shot I want to even work 80-100 hour weeks.

PE sounds great, until you realize to get into PE you need IB experience.

I've recently taken up an interest in VC, but just like PE (unless I'm mistaken), you need IB experience.

I started an online MsF program last year at a non-target in hopes that it would help boost my resume at least a little bit, and I'm supposed to graduate in December. But of course I was denied for summer aid so graduation is going to be pushed back to Spring 2022.

I just feel "whatever" at this point. Stressed out beyond belief but try my hardest to not show it.

An online MSF program doesn’t sound like it will be much of a game changer. You should probably check out top MBA programs.

Also, cast your net far and wide in your job search. Have fun with it. Use your anger and frustration to propel you in your search and efforts.

Good luck.
