Need advice on Desk Placement

Hello everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts about whether to go with an equity electronic trading desk or a traditional trading desk for BB. With trading becoming more and more automated and algo dependent, It seems like the future is becoming electronic trading, yet there are some unknowns with the track. Few of the traders I spoke to on traditional desks like rates and fx even knew the group existed. The group is on the equities floor near high touch and is fairly large, about 2-3x the size of many of the traditional groups like rates. The group isn't the actual devs or programs, but they work with monitoring, tweaking, customizing, presenting and evaluating the algorithms for the electronic trading platform. There seems to be a good mix of looking at the algos and actually working with clients to customize them.

Would this be a good route to go in s&t? I don't have any coding background, but the group seems open to teach interns and they are growing like crazy. The worries I have with the group are that 1) The work would be very far away from what I thought would be "being close to the markets' 2) the relative unknown aspect of the group in the bank and what their status/value is to the bank compared to traditional traders 3) and their bonus is dependent on volumes traded through the algos so I think it might be hard to differentiate yourself as a top performer and bring in the same amount traditional traders are by taking risks.

From what you guys know, would it be better to go with the electronic trading group or a traditional trading desk like rates?
