Need help on writing style.
My English is not good. However, I can find, learn and practice grammer and functuation rules online. What I want to ask is more about vocabulary and writing style. So here are the questions:
-
What should be the balance of reading and writing, 50/50? Sometimes it feels like I'm all the time reading and doing no writing practice at all.
-
Should I read more fiction/novel/poetry or NYTimes/Economist/WSJ to build my writing style? Generally which styles are applicable in business writing.
-
Which writers should I read? Short, direct writer like Hemingway or one with complex writing style like James Joyce?
Thank you in advance.
I would probably focus on NYT / Economist etc. so you learn through a crisper writing style and inform yourself of finance-related topics simultaneously. Learning via Hemingway may make you more verbose and "antiquate" - however, I do believe in reading classics as a "bonus"
Thank you. First, reading business or economic news all the time seems bit boring to me given that I have limited time to stick to both. Second, as being bad at word choice and dictating, these above sources mostly imported words or idoims from old masters, I guessed. That being said, I'm afraid of writing not knowing the original meaning or nuance of the words. Is it true or I can freely use business wordings without knowing the original use?

Thank you
Dreyer’s English by Benjamin Dreyer is an excellent book and he makes it quite ‘fun’ to read. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40063024
