Need help...Given contact information of HR from a MD.

Hi Monkeys,

Need some advice on what should I do. I this past summer have been networking extensively. Contacting anybody who is in the industry (analysts, associates, VPs', MDs) Recently I contacted via LinkedIn a MD. The message went along the lines of want to hear your experiences and would love to talk to you over the phone or in person. I got a email back from the individual saying to send in my resume which I did. Last night I got an email from HR person saying they work with the MD and would love to have a chat over the phone or meet in person and to call them. My experiences with HRs that I have contacted have been generally the same "Check out the company career tab and apply there." Is this any different/and if it is what should I talk to them about?

Thanks guy

It may be worth it. Just explain your background, what position you're going for, ask about how to best position yourself for an interview with the firm, and let the conversation go from there. But it is true that HR isn't the most helpful unless it's for info about a specific program, deadline dates, etc. They tend to follow things by the book and are trained to say certain things. On the other hand, bankers don't learn any of that stuff, are the ones who determine the hiring, and are therefore better to speak/network with. So you probably will get the standard by the book response from an HR conversation. It'll most likely suck, but who knows...

My guess is that the MD didn't want to blow you off completely by not responding so he just conveniently handed you off to HR as a result.
