Need some guidance to lateral

I am a senior that will be starting a full time career at a big firm this summer but not BB think RBS/JEF/Stifel/Macquarie. I worked very hard this year to land a job at a top BB but just barely came up short. I know that I am lucky to even land a job in this market yadda yadda.

I really fell in love with one of the top firms and not from an exit opp standpoint but from a culture/deal size/deal flow/location standpoint. How would I go about lateraling? How long into my job should I attempt? When do I begin reaching out to my network at these firms with my plan to lateral? Is it rude to reach out with this intention? How do I manage traveling to NYC to interview without my firm knowing? Do I tell my firm?

Sorry for all of the questions but I really need advice and guidance in this matter. And yes I will give my firm my best effort but I just want to be educated in case I plan to go thru with a lateral as now it seems likely.

way too early to be thinking about making a move. you haven't even graduated yet. Kick ass at your current job, but still keep in touch with the "love of your life". Never go into your first job with an attitude that you are going to leave in a few months. i wouldn't recommend lateraling sooner than 12 months or even at all. Your one true love probably isn't going to go anywhere so I would wait for senior analyst/associate roles with them. Finish up your 2-3 year stint at your current firm, then make a move.
