Need some opinions regarding IB internships in Australia and where I stand
Hi all.
I am going into my 3rd year at a top-target uni for over here majoring in finance and economics, looking to do an honours year in finance as well. Had applied to BBs and boutiques in the winter but wasn't successful. However, I was able to secure a buy-side internship at a small caps fund working as part of their investments team. Experience was fantastic and the industry exposure was much more than I anticipated. I realise that a full time offer is not on the table as they are all well into 15+ year careers and would not hire someone of my experience (although I have secured a casual contract for the first half of the year alongside uni), so I am eager to jump into the sell-side with a particular interest in ECM.
I hope to be more successful when applying to IB this year. I have a 75+ WAM and a concurrent CompSci track under my belt which finishes this year with subject marks 80+. Networking has been better this summer as it was something I had struggled with in the past, but I have mostly been exposed to a lot of ex-IB fund managers and IB non-juniors. Financial literacy is getting stronger each day and my modelling skills (albeit more focused on buy-side valuation) have had some solid time and effort put into them over the summer. Just wanted to gauge anyones opinion on where my chances stand for this years round of recruiting and what I can do in the next several months to better my chances. Also, any opinions on finance honours: what can I expect? Does it seperate you from the pack?
Cheers.
