Nepotism in IB
I’m a second-year student in college with not too many stellar but some connections to IB and was wondering how many kids get hired because of family or friends regardless of merit.

Is this a meme?
huh.... dude provide some more info, no one can help you with the super vague description
If you work in IB I’m just wondering from what you’ve seen through superdays, interview process and on the job how many people you know have admitted or you found out got hired mostly because of family or friends knowing without such connections their CV would never get them into banking. Hope that helps
I am a sophomore at a semi target but i have friends and know of people who have used it to their advantage. They go through super days, interviews etc but they have admitted to me that their resume and GPA wasn't that great (3.5 not a 2.5) but their parents relationships with current MD's and being ex senior members with the firm has lead them to being hired. It really isn't that hard to recognize once you start realizing how much of a role it plays indirectly, your dad was a trusted guy then the son should be the same combine that with how much competition there is, it is just far easier to chose someone's kid then a random student from a semi target. There are ton of people i have met that have had great GPA'S and the family connection just gets them over the hump so it isn't like they are the stereotypical frat stars who get drunk daily, barely pass and somehow they land at GS.
Connections always helps regardless of industry and that is the way that the world works and is impossible to beat. You can't ever be better than someone kids due to the inherit bias we are as humans so yeah there are a ton of kids who shouldn't be in IB, they are a ton of kids who worked hard , remained humble and just needed their dad's connection to push them through the door and they are a ton of hardworking, driven kids who never make it to IB but nepotism should never make anyone feel like shit or feel empowered . It either makes your life easier or harder and both provide benefits and negatives BUT nothing should sway you from attempting to break in.
I would say >50% of each Analyst class is given a job because of who their family is.
