Networking Advice - Went to a BB informal networking event

hey monkeys,

I go to a "non-target" school and recently got out of a BB informal networking event that I invited myself to at a very prestigious "target" school. I really hit it off with a couple alumni analysts (e.g., got business cards and was specifically told to follow-up for referrals) but I never mentioned that I didn't go to the very prestigious "target" school.

How would you handle following up? I am worried once they see my university's name on my resume, a sour taste in his/her mouth will pop up along with a kiss of death.

Advice most appreciated

Your location is Philly, do you go to Temple or something and went to the Wharton presentation?

You're just going to have to go for it. Reintroduce yourself and rehash some of the things you talked about. Then maybe subtley say you actually don't go to target but rather go to non-target and that your friend at target suggested you go or something. Just try not to make the focal point of the email the fact that you don't go to the school.

Otherwise you could just never follow up and you'd be in the same position, your choice.
