Networking after accepting SA offer

I recently accepted an SA offer for 2022. Very happy and excited for the opportunity, but I admittedly didn’t network too many places before accepting the position.

I’m worried about potentially not having a strong enough network if I don’t get a return offer, or I’m not happy with the culture at my bank.

Since most of my networking has been through the lens of “I am interested in recruiting for your bank,” I’m not sure how to frame these calls in the future, now that I have a position. Any advice?

My advice would be to leverage your university’s alumni network. Not every call has to be about interest in a specific program or connecting you with a job opportunity. You can reach out to people and frame it as you saw they’re involved with M&A at ex, barclays, and would love to learn more about their role and firm culture. You can look into their post grad programs or roles and maybe ask them questions about that? Talk about their opportunity at x university and how thats helped them in their current role. Try to first base your convo around their experience at your university, interest in their current role then their firm in general, and finally you can circle it around to discuss post grad opportunities for yourself.

Most people you reach out to enjoy talking about themselves and would be happy to hop on the phone for 30 min w you. It’s never too early to start thinking about post grad or trying to connect w others in areas of interest. Hope this helps!
