Networking / Applying to KPMG Strategy

Can anyone share any insight into how one might go about applying to KPMG strategy off-target at the analyst level? Can't find any strategy-specific application on the firm's website. Info on KPMG Strat is pretty scarce on this site.

I'm even having trouble networking, as lots of regular KPMG management consultants that do the risk and implementation stuff have "strategy" somewhere in their LinkedIn profiles.

Any advice from anyone who broke into KPMG Strategy from a non-target would be welcome

I don't have advice for you in terms of KPMG Strat, but I did get multiple offers from firms generally considered better that didn't list applications online, and I was a non-target.

On a high level, you need to understand that your objective is to get them to hire you instead of somebody from their pipelines they're currently invested in (and that they have a vested interested in maintaining/strengthening). The answer here is really good old fashioned referrals from high-ups in the company.

Thanks for the response. I networked like fuck with about 15 firms, but I only started mid-July, so I didn't have a ton of time to target the highest quality referrals. Got some love at MBB and some botiques, but no T2 as of yet. Hoping some more invites will roll through soon, but not necessarily expecting anything.

I read some of your other comments, and I'm curious if you ever had success from Associate / Consultant / EM level folks sending your resume and a note to the recruiter, or if by "high-ups" you basically mean partners

EM? Yes, I'd think that's high enough to count. The others? Tbh no, except for one case where it was moreso the person liking me, deciding to support me and really help me out, and putting me in contact with someone one rank above them, repeat a few cycles until it was someone who could make the decisions. Otherwise like partners / directors / managers / is the minimum that would really matter for a non-target referral in my personal experience, but I suppose this could vary from firm to firm.

Honestly before I joined I was really looking forward to being a change in that, but I realized that it takes a good while and you have to build up some goodwill before you can do that kind of thing.

Keep getting after it and good luck! I think the boutiques you're targeting could be smart because they often don't have as stiff of recruiting pipelines that have to be built when you have a certain level of scale.

KPMG strategy makes very few direct hires, I think I talked with a guy that said they mostly source out of Princeton - not sure if that's accurate. In any case, the majority of undergrad sourcing for their corporate strategy division is through their deal advisory rotational associate program. You have to do 6 months in accounting advisory services and 6 months in FDD, then after that you can apply for it and from what I understand it's pretty easy to get in that way.
