Networking Groups

Hello All,

I’m looking to get some real opinions on the various professional networking groups in commercial real estate. I know ULI and NAIOP are the popular ones. But does anyone have actual experience with either one? Also, you could mention any other good professional groups in NYC that you have experience with. Just trying to get ahead on the networking aspect of real estate as I start my career.

Consider supplementing whatever you do IRL with a free Tower Hunt profile. TH is a networking and intel/deal site organized around local markets. I'm a co-founder (former Eastdil Secured) and use it daily. We're initially focused on Boston and NY/NJ. Very little noise and more focused around market activity (vs WSO being more career-oriented).

Hope that helps a bit. Good luck.

Most Helpful

Two NYC specific ones...

MBAofNY (it's not just mortgage bankers fyi, its all commercial real estate, they run a great mentoring program for new professionals/students)

Young RE Professionals of NY.. aka.. YREPNY... not really super organized, but free and has great events, people really help each other in this group

This is NYC centric, but it might as well be

CREFC (mostly NYC based but national focus)

Also, in NYC... ULI is very dominant, NAIOP not a much (that is reversed in a lot of markets)

You may also want to consider checking out REBNY, but that is only if you really want to do NYC real estate specifically (like projects/properties in NY)
