Networking roadblock..need advice!!

Hi all,
I recently had a phone call with a partner in advisory services at one of the big four. The call went well and he said he would be willing to connect me with a good friend of his who is high up at a large commercial bank in their capital markets division. I sent him a follow up email a week later to politely ask him when I would be in touch with his friend. It has since been two weeks and I haven't heard back from him, which leads me to believe he is either incredibly busy or has just simply forgotten. He did tell me the name of his friend, so would it be wrong of me to just go and contact the friend myself, or continue waiting for the partner to make a formal introduction? Let me know your thoughts monkeys I appreciate it!
