Never Dry Clean Suits?!
Anyone else out there never dry clean their work suits?
I have 5 suits and primarily wear a rotation of 3 work suits. I hang them up at the end of the day and rewear. Roughly a 10 shirt rotation -- standard washer dryer then iron before wearing.
Some suits don't need dry cleaning, modern fabrics are way better than before. But if you have standard wool jackets, they'd need a dry cleaning regularly.
Half of my suits are 100% wool. Other half are a wool poly blend.
Unless you spill shit on them or sweat on them or sit in places where people sweat on. You won't need dry clean. If not just keep it in those Samsung smart dry-cleaner thing and save money
I dry clean them once in a while but definitely avoid it. Puts a lot of wear on them...
I used to dry clean my suits every few months especially after weddings. I started working FT and wearing suit n tie every day. Each time I send my clothes to cleaners they come back slightly ruined. Pants get discolored or shiney. Dress shirts with black marks on them or missing buttons. Not to mention the cost associated with laundering all the clothes and then having to replace them afterwards.
what brand shirts do you have? I'm in need of getting some new ones soon. Been eyeing State and Liberty, look super comfy and sharp. Would fit my build too
State & Liberty, Mizzen Main, Rhone etc. are the future. I wear the first two and they are certainly formal enough for work.
Jos A Bank runs insane clearance deals especially if you have odd sizing. I have bought slim fit dress shirts for $10 from them and I am fairly standard -- 15.5 neck 35 sleeves. Macy's carries a brand Society Of Threads, wouldn't recommend their white shirts, but their colored ones are great for a more casual summer day. I also have Calvin Klien, Tommy Hilfiger, Kirkland, and Michael Kors (all white).
1. Hang our suit (jacket / trouser separately) in a place where it will get some air and light for 24+ hours
2. Don't wear the same suit on consecutive days
3. Buy a lint remover and a clothes brush to clean your suits
4. Buy a steamer too keep them looking fresh
5. Maybe buy a trouser press to keep the crease crisp in the trousers (though I've never done this)
If you do all this you should be able to go a while before you need to get your suit dry cleaned, unless you spill something on it.
by suit i’m guessing your talking the blazer only right?
No I'm talking about the trousers and the jacket, though your trousers will of course get dirtier / require cleaning before the jacket does. However following this method can keep both pieces looking good and not smelling for a pretty long time without dry cleaning.
