New Here, Hoping to get an Internship for my Junior Summer
Hey guys I come from a non-target (or semi target?) with a solid GPA (3.8) and a desire to get into Wall Street firms. More specifically, I want to break into IB, MBB, or S&T (with a goal of PE/HF down the road). I plan on studying abroad this spring and really want a solid internship this summer. How should I proceed? Thanks in advance for your help!
PS. I am a Finance major with Accounting Concentration (so now I feel like I'm at the bottom of the totem pole with all the com sci and engineering guys out there)
My advice would be to figure out exactly which of those three you want to shoot for. Each recruiting process is different.
Do you have any prior internship experience in any of those areas? Otherwise, you're really going to have to network hard in order to stand out, since the majority of kids are going to have some sort of relevant experience going into recruiting.
Also, since you're studying abroad, be sure to figure out recruiting timelines. While recruiting (for IB, at least) is gradually being pushed earlier, it may still be in your best interest to get in on accelerated processes so that you're not stuck abroad without an offer.
Thanks for your help! My school has a lot of connections in the big 4 accounting and consulting. Would an internship there hold me back from breaking into IB, S&T, or Top consulting later down the road?
If you want to do consulting, try and do a consulting internship. An internship with a big 4 isn't bad if you're a fresh or soph, but by junior year, you definitely want to be interning at a bank.
The best internship for breaking into IB is an IB internship, best for S&T is an S&T internship, etc. Like I said before, it's really going to help you out if you can narrow your search. You may want to keep your options open, but recruiting for all three at once is going to be more of a detriment. I'd recommend you pick one, try an internship in that area, and if you like it, stick with it. If you hate it, then you can cross it off your list. Either way, it'll be a beneficial discovery.
Agreed with above. Also, I would try to get an internship with a local BB office near you if you can manage that, it'll help tremendously in recruiting time.
Thanks! Do you mean an internship during the fall of the school year? And then I would reach out to people from that BB in a major city?
Hey everyone,
I'm a rising junior and am currently interning at a boutique investment bank and have been working on some deals. I've included some of them on my resume and was wondering if interviewers during recruiting for the bulge bracket internships will ask about the specifics of the deals. For example I put that I developed models for a company generating $X million in EBITDA. Aside from asking the assumptions I made and what industry it was etc, will the interviewers ever ask what companies they were? I am unsure if I am allowed to disclose this information and additionally if I am comfortable doing so. Please advise.
Thank you for your help!
